LOCAL URBAN LEGENDS: The Seven Gates of Hell

Few things fulfill a cold autumn night more than a ghostly tale, or one that delves into the unknown, does.                                                           Not actual photo of the location! One particular urban legend that has always intrigued me is the legend of The Seven Gates of Hell, which is supposedly located in York County, Pennsylvania (Hellam Township). According to legend, passing through all seven gates leads the traveler straight into Hell.    To quote Dante: "Abandon all hope ye who enter here."   My interest in this legend lies partially in the basis of the legend lying upon an old isolated asylum that was once on a wooded road called Toad Road. According to some sources, the asylum was erected during the 1800s, housing the most criminally insane (needless to say, the locals were likely quite relieved in not having this establishment close to their places of residence). Some of my Halloween Music...

Greetings! So in addition to all the horror/sci-fi/fantasy films out there, what else can help enhance the Halloween season? Music, of course. And one of my favorite albums to listen to at this time of year is the 1985 debut album of the goth/darkwave/synthpop band, Clan of Xymox (also simply known as Xymox). There is just something about this album that makes driving through a fall evening with the semi-barren trees and the moon in the night sky with this album playing that just really sets a mood. Even listening while driving on a cloudy, autumn day sets a real tone for the season. The album has a dark, nostalgic, other-worldly sound to it, and some of my favorite songs are "7th Time", "Stranger," and "No Human Can Drown." You can pick up the album and listen to samples at  Amazon .  I highly recommend if you want a rather peaceful yet slightly disorienting vibe...
